'Sushi Pie' opens minds to 'win-win' solutions that make available the best of both worlds.
The filmmakers
Matt: We came up with the idea of sushipie because Suzie loves sushi and I hate it. I'm a really two-pie-a-day person. We made a face that looked like our maths teacher out of plasticine. That became the person who likes sushi. It just all went from there. We were excited. The result was a compromise between sushi and pie. Sushipie!
Sam: Sushipie is a more straight-forward kind of clip.
Matt: Also, we just did it at the workshop, so it took about 6 hours.
Matt: Our clip is different - a bit metaphorical - but it works. It's the kind of idea that makes you think about making a compromise. Our drama class watched it and liked it, and yes, we'll be showing it at assembly.
Sam: Easy to see on the phone screen too because of the bright colours and everything is centred in the middle.
Suzie: It targets cultural differences too.
Alison: I think what's interesting about this problem solving is the way they started with strong graphics and drawings behind. Very simple but very powerful images that were then created in clay.
