Anti-bullying promotional activities
It's important to acknowledge that bullying exists, to promote the message that it is not OK - and to speak up so the community knows what's being done to build supportive schools free from bullying. Here are some ideas for raising awareness.
Engaging students
Student participation can be enhanced through discrete projects within classrooms or schools... through to ongoing approaches that underpin how the whole school or class goes about its work. In each case, the critical factor is that the outcomes are considered valuable by the students, the wider community and the school.
Including parents & carers
Parents and carers have a primary role in teaching children the values, skills and behaviours that counteract bullying. Therefore it is important to include parents and carers in bullying prevention, whether through a formal role in the development of a school plan or informal sharing of information and strategies.
Involving the wider community
Bullying is not just a personal predicament. It is everyone's problem, and it has serious implications for the community as a whole. When schools form effective partnerships with parents and the wider community to implement and maintain anti-bullying and anti-violence initiatives, the outcomes are always more positive.
